alsace-domaine-bott-geyl-2005
Metiss Alsace Domaine Bott-Geyl 2005

The 2005 Metiss is a white wine produced by Domaine Bott-Geyl and bottled by Jean Christophe Bott. Crafted from a blend designated as Les Pinots d'Alsace, this cuvée represents the traditional white grape varieties of the area. The wine is bottled at 13 percent alcohol by volume and carries the Appellation Alsace Contrôlée classification, a designation officially recognized in 1962 that accounts for the majority of the region's production.

Located in northeastern France along the German border, Alsace lies in a narrow belt on the eastern slopes of the Vosges mountains, descending toward the Rhine valley. The region's history of alternating between French and German rule has deeply influenced its culture and viticulture. Alsace is unique within France as it traditionally names its wines after the grape variety rather than the specific village or vineyard.

The semi-continental climate of Alsace is heavily shaped by the Vosges mountains, which serve as a natural barrier against rain and western winds. This rain shadow effect makes the area one of the driest and sunniest wine regions in France, providing the grapes with a long and stable growing season. The local terroir is exceptionally complex due to geological faults, offering a diverse mosaic of soils within short distances, including granite, limestone, schist, clay, gravel, and the distinctive local pink sandstone known as grès de Vosges.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0646/3478/1950/files/generated-1522_2b7e9e18-2303-4ee2-8ce4-61a0f667c468.jpg?v=1791452710
