The climate is distinctly Mediterranean, characterized by warm, dry summers and mild winters, with significant influence from both the dry, northwesterly Mistral wind and the cool Marin breeze from the Mediterranean. The terroir is defined by soils consisting mainly of large, rounded stones known as galets roulés, mixed with red clay and sand from the ancient course of the Rhône river, which provides excellent drainage and heat retention.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe broader Rhône Valley has a rich viticultural history dating back to Roman times.
