El Ceibo Estate Aconcagua Valley Viña Errázuriz 2002

The 2002 El Ceibo Estate is a red wine produced by Viña Errázuriz, crafted exclusively from Cabernet Sauvignon. Founded in 1870 by Chilean diplomat and businessman Don Maximiano Errázuriz Valdivieso, the estate is located in Panquehue, north of Santiago. At a time when the area was characterized by local household production, Don Maximiano aimed to create wines of a European standard, establishing one of Chile's earliest modern wine projects. The estate has remained under family control for five generations and is currently led by Eduardo Chadwick. Under his leadership, the house achieved a milestone for Chilean wine during the 2004 Berlin Tasting, where their wines outperformed classic French and Italian counterparts in a blind tasting. The grapes for this wine are sourced from the El Ceibo Estate in the Aconcagua Valley, an official Chilean Denominación de Origen (DO) situated in central Chile. Stretching from the Andes Mountains in the east to the Pacific Ocean in the west, the valley features a Mediterranean climate with warm days, cool nights, and significant diurnal temperature shifts. The region benefits from a long, dry growing season, and the soils vary from alluvial gravel and sand to limestone and clay.Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the world's most renowned blue grapes, widely cultivated in prominent wine regions such as Bordeaux, California, Washington, and Tuscany. For this 2002 vintage, the producer selected fruit from the best lots of the El Ceibo Estate. During the production process, the wine was integrated with oak. The final wine is bottled at 14.0% alcohol by volume.

About the region

Aconcagua Valley lies in central Chile about 100 kilometres north of Santiago and stretches from the Andes in the east to the Pacific Ocean in the west. The area is an official Chilean DO and is especially known for its powerful red wines from the warmer inland zones and fresh white wines from the cool coastal zones such as Aconcagua Costa.

The climate is Mediterranean with warm days, cool nights and significant diurnal temperature swings, and the soils range from alluvial gravel and sand to limestone and clay. The wines are made mainly from Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère, Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc, and the style is typically full-bodied and structured with ripe dark berries, plum, pepper, spices and firm tannins. The area is known as home to some of Chile's most iconic wineries and quality-focused red wines.

Super service and very helpful. Lost one of the bottles during transport and reported it to Bottles With History. It was fixed immediately and a new bottle was sent immediately. (Actually a better wine in my opinion) It is very difficult to guarantee that older bottles are drinkable, like the Barolo from 69 I tried. Anders came to the rescue again and of course sent a new bottle of the same caliber. Thank you very much for the good service, can definitely recommend shopping here in safe hands.
