Amarone Dal Forno Romano 2008
The 2008 Monte Lodoletta Amarone della Valpolicella is a red wine produced by Dal Forno Romano. This wine originates from the Monte Lodoletta vineyard within the Amarone della Valpolicella area, located in the Veneto region of northeastern Italy. Veneto is one of the country's most productive wine regions, stretching from the Alps to the Adriatic Sea, and is home to some of Italy's most renowned appellations. Amarone della Valpolicella, produced in the hills north of Verona, stands as the signature wine of this region and is widely recognized as one of Italy's most iconic red wines.
This vintage is crafted from a traditional selection of local grape varieties, including Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, Croatina, and Oseleta. Corvina is the central grape of the Valpolicella area, while Corvinone plays a highly defining role in the blend. Historically considered a clone of Corvina, modern DNA analysis proved Corvinone to be a distinct, independent variety, officially recognized in 2003. Grown almost exclusively in the well-drained soils of the Veronese hills, Corvinone is rarely used as a single varietal but is a cornerstone of classic northern Italian blends.
The physical structure of the Corvinone grape, characterized by its large berries, loose bunches, and thick skin, makes it exceptionally well-suited for the traditional appassimento method used by the estate. Following the harvest, the selected grapes are dried for several months before fermentation. This historic drying process is essential to the production of Amarone, resulting in a highly concentrated structure. The 2008 Monte Lodoletta holds a Denominazione di Origine Controllata classification and reaches an alcohol content of 16.5 percent.
