Barbaresco through time - Tasting box
Barbaresco through time – three vintages, three producers, one classic appellation
Experience the development of Barbaresco through almost three decades.
This tasting case brings together three different interpretations of Barbaresco from 1981, 1999, and 2007. What they all have in common is the Nebbiolo grape and their origin in Barbaresco in Piedmont – but age, producer, and vintage create three very different expressions.
The case provides a rare opportunity to taste how Barbaresco develops over time and how different producers work with one of Italy’s most characterful grape varieties.
The case contains:
Barbaresco Minuto Luigi 1981
The oldest wine in the case and a true piece of wine history. After more than four decades in bottle, Nebbiolo has had time to develop the classic tertiary nuances that make old Barbaresco so fascinating. Expect a mature and elegant expression with dried red fruits, flowers, spices, leather, and forest floor.
Barbaresco Bruno Giacosa 1999 White Label
Bruno Giacosa is one of the great historic names in Piedmont, and this White Label Barbaresco provides an exciting midpoint in the tasting. The 1999 vintage has now achieved significant bottle maturity, while at the same time representing a younger and more structured expression than the 1981 wine. Classic notes of cherry, roses, spices, and truffle are accompanied by Nebbiolo’s characteristic structure and acidity.
Barbaresco Produttori del Barbaresco 2007
The youngest wine in the case and from one of Barbaresco’s best-known producers. Produttori del Barbaresco is famous for its focus on Nebbiolo and the area’s different terroirs. The 2007 wine provides a more youthful perspective on the appellation with clearer fruit, structure, and tannin than the two older wines.
Three vintages – one grape – almost 30 years of history
By tasting the wines side by side, you get the opportunity to follow Barbaresco from mature vintage wine to a younger and more structured expression.
1981 shows what many years of bottle aging can do to Nebbiolo. 1999 places itself between maturity and structure, while 2007 gives a picture of Barbaresco at an earlier stage of development.
This makes the case ideal for a tasting with other wine enthusiasts, as a gift for a Barbaresco lover, or for those who want to experience how one of Italy’s great wine styles develops through the decades.
