Domaine de la Verchère de Savy Beaujolais Georges Dubœuf 1993
The 1993 Domaine de la Verchère de Savy is a Beaujolais Blanc selected and bottled by Georges Dubœuf. Presented in a 37.5 cl format, this white wine is produced under the Appellation Beaujolais Contrôlée. It is crafted from Chardonnay, one of the world's most recognized green grapes, which is frequently cultivated in prominent wine regions such as Burgundy, Champagne, California, and Oregon.
Beaujolais is an extensive wine region located south of Burgundy and north of Lyon, stretching down towards Mâcon. While the area is predominantly known for its red wines grown on northern granite and southern clay-limestone soils, it also yields select white wines. The broader Burgundy region, shaped by medieval monks who meticulously mapped its countless terroirs, is renowned for its limestone soils and intricate system of climats. The 1993 vintage from this area is noted for its good structure and classic style, achieving a score of 85 points.
Georges Dubœuf established his merchant house in Romanèche-Thorins in 1964 and subsequently became the most influential individual in modern Beaujolais history. He was instrumental in bringing international visibility to the region, turning the annual release of Beaujolais Nouveau into a global event. The house works with the entire spectrum of the area, from generic appellations to the ten Crus. The family also holds historical ties to the Mâconnais, the Chardonnay-based wine country north of Beaujolais, which naturally complements their broader portfolio. Following Georges Dubœuf's passing in 2020, the estate is today managed by his son, Franck Dubœuf.
