Bordeaux 1990s - Tasting box
Bordeaux through the 90s – three vintages, three appellations
Experience Bordeaux through an entire decade.
This tasting case brings together three wines from 1990, 1993, and 1998 and provides the opportunity to follow the development of Bordeaux through the 90s. At the same time, the wines come from different parts of the region, so the tasting is about both vintage, age, and terroir.
From Saint-Émilion through Médoc to Margaux, you get three different interpretations of classic Bordeaux – all with more than 25 years of development in bottle.
The case contains:
Saint-Paul de Dominique 1990 – Saint-Émilion
The tasting begins on Bordeaux’s right bank with a wine from Saint-Émilion.
Here, Merlot traditionally plays a larger role, which often gives the wines a rounder and more fruit-driven expression than many wines from the left bank. After more than three decades of development in bottle, the 1990 vintage has had plenty of time to develop classic mature nuances of dark fruits, spices, leather, and forest floor.
Château Maison Blanche 1993 – Médoc Cru Bourgeois
Next, we move to Médoc on the left bank.
Here, Cabernet Sauvignon traditionally plays a larger role, and the wines are often associated with more structure, darker fruit, and notes of cedar and tobacco. Château Maison Blanche 1993 therefore provides an exciting point of contrast to the case’s Saint-Émilion.
Château Segonnes 1998 – Margaux
The tasting concludes in Margaux with the youngest wine in the case.
Margaux is known for an elegant and aromatic expression with more finesse and perfume than many of the other appellations on the left bank. The 1998 vintage therefore provides a natural conclusion to the tasting and shows another side of Bordeaux than both Saint-Émilion and Médoc.
Three wines – eight years of Bordeaux history
What makes this case special is the opportunity both to follow Bordeaux through the 1990s and compare three different areas.
Start on the right bank in Saint-Émilion, move on to Médoc, and finish in Margaux. Along the way, you can experience how vintage, grape composition, age, and terroir all affect the wines.
An ideal tasting case for the Bordeaux enthusiast, for an evening with friends, or for those who want to experience mature Bordeaux without going all the way back to the oldest vintages.
