Greenwich Meridian Bordeaux Aurélien Grenouilleau 1998
The Greenwich Meridian Bordeaux is a red wine from the 1998 vintage, bottled by Aurélien Grenouilleau under the Appellation Bordeaux Contrôlée. Specially selected by Lamberhurst Wines Ltd., this release was designated as the 'Vin officiel de l'an 2000' and carries the title of 'The Official Greenwich Millennium Wine'. The label features the tagline 'The Millennium Starts Here', paying tribute to Greenwich as the site of the Prime Meridian and the historical home of time.
The wine originates from Bordeaux in southwestern France, a globally renowned wine region that has been exporting its production since the Middle Ages. The 1998 vintage in this area achieved a score of 90 points and is described as rich and ripe. The local maritime climate is heavily influenced by the Atlantic Ocean, as well as the Gironde estuary and the Garonne and Dordogne rivers, which provide a crucial temperature-regulating effect across the vineyards.
As the largest and most fundamental classification in the area, the Appellation Bordeaux Contrôlée represents the broad, traditional wine style of the entire region. The terroir is highly diverse, encompassing gravel, clay, limestone, and sand. This geological variety supports the classic Bordeaux grape varieties; historically, the left bank of the Gironde is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon thriving on gravel soils, while the right bank is the traditional domain of Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
