Bordeaux Supérieur Château Lafitte Laguens 1992
Château Lafitte Laguens is located 15 kilometers east of the city of Bordeaux in France. The estate takes its name from the owner, Mr. Laguens, who appended his surname to the historic Château Lafitte. The property encompasses 35 hectares of vineyards, where the wine is traditionally aged in partially new oak barrels. This release is from the 1992 vintage, a year that is characterized as thin and developed.
The wine is classified under the Appellation Bordeaux Supérieur Contrôlée. This regional AOC, established in 1943, covers the entire Bordeaux region along the Atlantic coast. Bordeaux Supérieur requires stricter production standards than the basic Bordeaux AOC, including lower yields, higher minimum alcohol levels, older vines, denser planting, and at least nine months of aging. The broader Bordeaux region has been exporting wine since the Middle Ages and remains globally recognized for its historic estates and the legendary 1855 classification.
The vineyard plantings at the estate consist of 60 percent Cabernet, complemented by Merlot. "Cabernet" often serves as a collective term for the Cabernet family, primarily Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. These thick-skinned, relatively late-ripening varieties form the backbone of the region's red wines and are widely cultivated across Bordeaux, as well as in regions like Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige, California, and Tuscany. Merlot, a classic blue grape, is traditionally grown alongside the Cabernet varieties. In the broader Bordeaux region, Merlot dominates the right bank of the Gironde estuary, while Cabernet thrives on the gravel soils of the left bank.
The wine was bottled directly at the château and features an alcohol content of 11.5 percent, with a residual sugar level of 2 grams per liter.

Storage
Store the bottle horizontally at 12–14°C and avoid direct sunlight, vibrations, and temperature fluctuations.
Opening
Allow the bottle to stand upright for 24–48 hours before opening to allow sediment to settle. Use a professional corkscrew and open carefully.
Enjoyment
Serve at 17–18°C and be patient – there is a great difference in how and how quickly wines open up when they are aerated.
