Bordeaux Superior Château de Seguin 1992
Château de Seguin is located in Entre-Deux-Mers, a vast wine area in Bordeaux stretching between the Garonne and Dordogne rivers. While historically known for its white wines, the estate produces classic Bordeaux reds that offer a more accessible profile compared to the prestigious crus further north and east. This 1992 red wine is bottled in a 1500 ml format by the proprietors, Erling Carl & Fils, directly at the estate.
The wine holds the Appellation Bordeaux Supérieur Contrôlée classification, a regional AOC established in 1943 that covers the entire Bordeaux region. This designation requires stricter production standards than the basic Bordeaux AOC, including lower yields, older vines, denser planting, and a minimum of nine months of aging. In line with the estate's traditional methods, this specific wine was aged in barrels and has an alcohol content of 12%.
The 1992 vintage in this region is described as thin and developed. For this particular vintage, the estate's production amounted to 250 tonneaux, which corresponds to 300,000 bottles. Furthermore, the wine was recognized by the Union Française des Œnologues in Paris in 1994.
The history of the wine
Below, you can delve into the history of this wine — its producer, grape, area, and region.
Bordeaux
Bordeaux on the Atlantic is the world's most famous wine region and has been exporting wine since the Middle Ages. The legendary 1855 classification still ranks the area's leading châteaux. On the left bank of the Gironde, Cabernet Sauvignon dominates on gravel soils, while the right bank is the domain of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The region is known for elegant, age-worthy blends of great finesse.
When this wine was made, the world looked very different. Here are some of the stories that unfolded while this bottle quietly aged in its cellar.
