Brouilly Château de Corcelles 1981
Brouilly Château de Corcelles is a French red wine from the Beaujolais region, located south of Burgundy. The wine is made by the producer Château de Corcelles and is bottled directly at the château.
Beaujolais is known as the home of the French Gamay grape, which is also the dominant grape variety in this wine. The grape is grown primarily in Beaujolais and the Loire. The region's granite subsoil forms the foundation for wine production in the ten recognised cru villages, of which Brouilly is one.
The wine bears the classification Appellation Brouilly Contrôlée. Brouilly is the largest and southernmost of the ten Beaujolais Crus and extends over approximately 1,250 hectares around the extinct volcano Mont Brouilly. The area, which obtained its AOC status in 1938, covers the communes of Odenas, Quincié-en-Beaujolais, Saint-Lager, Saint-Étienne-la-Varenne, Cercié and Charentay. The vineyards here are characterised by a mosaic of soil types, including pink granite, limestone, marl and the volcanic diorite that is locally called "cornes vertes".
This specific bottling has an alcohol content of 12 and was at the time imported to Denmark by Irma Vin A/S in Copenhagen. The wine received recognition in the spring of 1982, when it was awarded a bronze medal at the Concours Général de Paris in March and a silver medal at the Concours International de Mâcon in May.
The history of the wine
Below, you can delve into the history of this wine — its producer, grape, area, and region.
Beaujolais
Beaujolais south of Burgundy is the homeland of the Gamay grape. The area became world-famous for the young, fruity Beaujolais Nouveau, but the real quality lies in the ten cru villages such as Morgon and Fleurie. The granite subsoil yields juicy, light red wines with fresh acidity and aromas of red berries, flowers and spice. A classic and incredibly food-friendly French red wine region.
