Cordon Negro Sant Sadurní d'Anoia Freixenet NV
The Cordon Negro Brut is a non-vintage sparkling wine produced by Freixenet, located in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, Spain. Classified as a Cava, this wine is crafted using the Traditional Method, reflecting the classic sparkling wine production techniques of the area. Freixenet has established itself as a major producer, historically recognized as an export leader and a prominent Cava brand internationally.
The wine originates from Catalonia, situated in northeastern Spain along the Mediterranean coast, stretching from the Pyrenees in the north to Tarragona in the south. As one of Spain's most dynamic wine regions, Catalonia encompasses ten official DOs and is widely celebrated as the traditional home of Cava. The climate is predominantly Mediterranean with continental influences inland, while the soils offer great diversity, ranging from chalk and clay to slate and granite.
This Cava is a blend of the traditional regional varieties Xarel·lo, Macabeo, and Parellada. Macabeo is a classic Catalan and Spanish grape frequently utilized in both white and sparkling wine production, particularly prevalent in Catalonia and Rioja. Parellada, another native Catalan variety, is a staple in the region's sparkling wines. Together with Xarel·lo, these grapes form the foundational blend that defines the classic Cava production of the area.
