Chianti Melini 1981
The 1981 Chianti Melini is a Denominazione di Origine Controllata red wine from the iconic region of Tuscany, Italy. Presented in a 1500ml format with an alcohol content of 11.8%, it comes from a vintage that is described as elegant and classic. Tuscany is one of Italy's most historic wine regions, with viticultural roots dating back to the Etruscans, where Sangiovese stands as the undisputed main grape variety forming the basis for classic appellations like Chianti.
Melini was founded in 1705 by Adamo Melini in Poggibonsi, situated between Florence and Siena in the area that would later become the Chianti Classico appellation. This long history places the estate among Italy's oldest wineries in continuous operation and establishes it as a central voice in the historical development of the area.
One of Melini's most notable contributions to Italian wine culture occurred in 1860 when the house designed the characteristic round Chianti bottle known as the 'fiasco', featuring a straw basket around its base. This practical design secured the bottles during transport at a time when the railway network was just beginning to open distant markets for Italian wine, eventually becoming one of the world's most recognizable visual symbols of Italian viticulture. Today, the estate is owned by Gruppo Italiano Vini, Italy's largest wine group, and continues to represent classic Chianti built upon three centuries of continuous production.
The history of the wine

Tuscany
Tuscany is one of Italy's most iconic wine regions, with roots reaching back to the Etruscans. Sangiovese is the undisputed principal grape and forms the basis for classics such as Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. From the 1970s the prestigious Super Tuscans also emerged along the coast. The rolling hills produce structured red wines with cherry, herbs and firm tannins.
