Manoir d'Olivier Côtes de Castillon Olivier C. Sublett 1989
Manoir d'Olivier Cuvée Carte Noire is a Grand Vin de Bordeaux produced by the négociant Olivier C. Sublett. The wine originates from a beautiful château located in the Côtes de Castillon appellation, situated in the eastern part of the Bordeaux region on the right bank of the Dordogne river. Bordeaux, located by the Atlantic Ocean, is a historically significant wine region that has been exporting its renowned blended wines since the Middle Ages.
Côtes de Castillon lies immediately east of Saint-Émilion and is historically recognized as the site of the 1453 battle that ended the Hundred Years' War. The climate here is influenced by the Atlantic, though the distance from the sea makes the area slightly warmer and drier than its famous neighbor. As a neighboring appellation, Côtes de Castillon shares many geographical characteristics with Saint-Émilion and is recognized as a quality-oriented source of structured right-bank wines.
The vines are cultivated in clay and limestone soils, which provide excellent drainage on the higher slopes. These geological conditions are highly favorable for the traditional right-bank grape varieties. This red wine is crafted from a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc.
This release is from the 1989 vintage, which achieved a score of 96 points and is described as full-bodied and concentrated. The wine is bottled under the Appellation Côtes-de-Castillon Contrôlée.
