Clos du Chapitre Fixin 1er Cru 2000
This is a 2000 Clos du Chapitre Fixin 1er Cru, a red wine produced by Domaine Guy Dufouleur. Classified as an Appellation Fixin 1er Cru Contrôlée, this release comes from the Clos du Chapitre vineyard, which holds a Monopole classification. Operating as a Propriétaire-Récoltant, Domaine Guy Dufouleur oversees both the cultivation of the grapes and the winemaking process. The wine was vinified and subsequently aged in the estate's 17th-century cellars under the direction of winemaker Guy Dufouleur.
The wine originates from Bourgogne in eastern France, a region shaped by medieval monks who meticulously mapped its countless terroirs. Within Bourgogne, the Fixin appellation is located furthest north in the Côte de Nuits, situated immediately south of Marsannay and north of Gevrey-Chambertin. The vines here are cultivated at altitudes between 350 and 380 meters on east to southeast-facing slopes, rooted in brown limestone soils mixed with marl and sandstone. Fixin is often recognized as an underrated alternative to Gevrey-Chambertin. The 2000 vintage in this area received a score of 88 points and is described as being accessible early on.
This Premier Cru is made exclusively from Pinot Noir, an elegant blue grape that is the primary red variety cultivated in the region. While Pinot Noir is grown in various prominent wine-producing areas worldwide, including Champagne, Germany, Oregon, and California, it is deeply tied to the fine-meshed system of climats in Bourgogne, where the limestone soils help define the character of the local wines.
