Médoc Cru Bourgeois Château Haut-Canteloup 1982
The 1982 Château Haut-Canteloup is a Cru Bourgeois red wine from the Médoc area in the renowned Bordeaux region of France. The 1982 vintage in this area is considered legendary, rich, and balanced, earning a score of 97 points. Bordeaux, situated along the Atlantic coast, has been exporting wine since the Middle Ages and remains one of the world's most famous wine-producing regions, celebrated for its historic estates and the legendary 1855 classification.
Located on the left bank of the Gironde estuary, north of the city of Bordeaux, the Médoc appellation is recognized globally for its classic wine production. The terroir here is characterized by a composition of gravel, sand, and clay, which provides excellent natural drainage and heat retention for the vines.
Château Haut-Canteloup is situated in Saint-Christoly-Médoc, in the northernmost part of the Médoc peninsula near the mouth of the Gironde. In this northern sector, the climate is slightly cooler and more maritime than further south. Cru Bourgeois estates like Haut-Canteloup, owned by Dominique Dutreix, form the backbone of the production in this part of the appellation. It is important to note that there are two different Bordeaux estates named Château Haut-Canteloup; this is the Médoc Cru Bourgeois property, distinct from the estate located in Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux. As indicated on the label, this wine was bottled directly at the estate.
