Montagne-Saint-Émilion Château La Croix des Tours 1987
The 1987 Château La Croix des Tours is a red wine from the Montagne-Saint-Émilion appellation in Bordeaux, France. Produced by S.C.C.T., this vintage is described as light and ready to drink. The wine was bottled directly at the estate, carrying the traditional 'Mise en bouteille au château' designation.
Located on the Atlantic coast, Bordeaux has been exporting wine since the Middle Ages and remains a historically significant wine region. Montagne-Saint-Émilion is situated on the Right Bank in the Libournais district, immediately north of Saint-Émilion. It is the largest of the four Saint-Émilion satellites and is widely regarded as the most ambitious of these neighboring appellations. The area features a hilly terrain surrounding the village of Montagne, where the oceanic climate is moderated by the waters of the Dordogne river, providing mild temperatures and a certain level of humidity.
The soils in Montagne-Saint-Émilion consist of clay and limestone on the ridges, gravel and sand on the slopes, along with patches of limestone bedrock. The appellation is dedicated exclusively to red wines. These are predominantly based on Merlot, which typically makes up 70 to 90 percent of the plantings and thrives in the cool clay-limestone soils. The Merlot is traditionally supplemented by Cabernet Franc and a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon, reflecting the classic grape composition of the Bordeaux Right Bank.
