Pauillac Grand Cru Classé in 1855 Château Croizet-Bages 1991
This 1991 red wine comes from Château Croizet-Bages, a Grand Cru Classé en 1855 estate located in the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux, France. Situated on the Atlantic coast, Bordeaux has been a prominent wine-producing region since the Middle Ages, with its Left Bank defined by gravelly soils along the Gironde estuary. The 1991 vintage in this area was characterized by frost and low quality.
Pauillac, located in the Haut-Médoc, is a prestigious appellation and a benchmark for Left Bank Bordeaux, housing three of the five First Growth estates from the 1855 classification. The gravelly terroir is ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated blends. Reflecting this local tradition, Château Croizet-Bages cultivates 28 to 30 hectares of vines, producing classic Pauillac where Cabernet Sauvignon plays the leading role.
Château Croizet-Bages was founded in the 17th century by the Croizet brothers and is situated in the Bages quarter, sharing the area with the renowned Lynch-Bages. The estate has been owned by the Quié family since 1942, when it was purchased by Paul Quié. Today, it is managed by the fourth generation, Jean-Philippe and Anne-Françoise Quié, with their father Jean-Michel serving on the board. This marks over 80 years of continuous family ownership. The Quié family's portfolio also includes Château Rauzan-Gassies, a Second Growth in Margaux, and Château Bel-Orme-Tronquoy-de-Lalande in the Haut-Médoc.
The wine was bottled at the château and has an alcohol volume of 12.5%. It was originally imported by Svendborg Vinkompagni.
