Pauillac Cru Bourgeois Château Grand Canyon 1990 (low level)
Produced in the renowned Bordeaux region along the Atlantic coast, which has been exporting wine since the Middle Ages, the Pauillac Cru Bourgeois Château Grand Canyon 1990 represents a classic Left Bank expression. The legendary 1855 classification still ranks the area's leading châteaux, and Pauillac itself, located in the Haut Médoc, is one of the world's most prestigious red wine appellations. Serving as a benchmark for the Left Bank, Pauillac is home to three of the five First Growth estates. The 1990 vintage achieved a score of 97 points, characterized by great ripeness and balance in this historic terroir.
Château Grand Canyon is the second wine of Château Colombier-Monpelou, crafted by Bernard Jugla, an eighth-generation Pauillac winegrower. The somewhat unusual name of the wine is inspired by a gorge located on the property, a geographical feature that is quite rare in the Médoc. The wine is produced from vines with an average age of 30 years, planted in the area's signature gravelly soils near the Gironde estuary.
The wine is a traditional blend consisting of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the world's most known blue grapes for structured red wines and dominates the Left Bank of Bordeaux, though it is also widely cultivated in California, Washington, and Tuscany. Merlot and Cabernet Franc are classic blue grapes frequently found in Bordeaux, as well as in regions like California, Washington, Northern Italy, and the Loire Valley. Following the harvest, the wine is aged in barrels for 18 to 22 months and is traditionally fined using egg whites.
