Port Rozes 1997

The Porto Rozès 1997 is a fortified wine produced by Rozès in the renowned Douro region of northern Portugal. Bottled at 20% alcohol in a 750 ml format, this 1997 vintage carries the protected Vinho do Porto designation of origin. The Douro Valley, officially demarcated in 1756, stands as one of the world's oldest regulated wine regions and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The landscape is defined by steep terraces built into the mountainsides along the Douro River, allowing for viticulture in a rugged terrain. The soil consists primarily of schist, which forces the vines' roots to search deep underground for water. Shielded from the Atlantic coastal climate by the Marão mountain range, the region experiences a continental climate with very hot, dry summers and cold winters. These demanding conditions naturally limit the harvest yield while ensuring a high concentration in the grapes. As a classic Vinho do Porto, the wine is crafted using traditional fortification methods. During vinification, the fermentation process is halted by the addition of grape spirit, which preserves the natural sugar content of the grapes and raises the final alcohol level. The production relies on a variety of native Portuguese grape varieties cultivated in the region, most notably Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, and Tinto Cão. While the wine takes its name from the coastal city of Porto, where it has historically been aged and exported, the entire cultivation and vinification process takes place inland within the Douro Valley.

On dizzyingly steep schist terraces along the Douro river, the grapes that yield the famous Port wine ripen. Today, excellent dry red wines are also made from native grapes such as Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca. The wines are deep, concentrated and mineral.

Super service and very helpful. Lost one of the bottles during transport and reported it to Bottles With History. It was fixed immediately and a new bottle was sent immediately. (Actually a better wine in my opinion) It is very difficult to guarantee that older bottles are drinkable, like the Barolo from 69 I tried. Anders came to the rescue again and of course sent a new bottle of the same caliber. Thank you very much for the good service, can definitely recommend shopping here in safe hands.
