Château St Jacques Puisseguin-Saint-Émilion A. Goujou 1981
Château St Jacques is a red wine produced by A. Goujou in the 1981 vintage. The wine originates from the Puisseguin-Saint-Émilion appellation in France and was bottled at the property by Les Producteurs Réunis de Puisseguin in the Gironde department. The 1981 vintage in this area is described as delicate and mature.
Puisseguin-Saint-Émilion is one of the four satellite AOCs surrounding the renowned Saint-Émilion appellation in the Libournais district of Bordeaux. Located to the northeast of Saint-Émilion, the area was granted AOC status in 1936 and covers approximately 740 hectares of vineyards planted around the village of Puisseguin. The local climate is characterized by Atlantic influences moderated by the waters of the Dordogne river, providing mild temperatures and suitable humidity. The soils consist primarily of limestone and clay on the higher slopes, along with asteries limestone in certain parcels.
The entire production of the Puisseguin-Saint-Émilion appellation is dedicated to red wines, which are predominantly based on Merlot, typically making up 70 to 85 percent of the plantings. This is supplemented by Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and a smaller amount of Malbec. This grape composition is characteristic of the Right Bank of Bordeaux, a historic region situated by the Atlantic Ocean that has been exporting wine since the Middle Ages. While the Left Bank of the Gironde estuary is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon grown on gravel soils, the Right Bank remains the primary domain of Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
