Saint Émilion Château de Guilhemanson 1989
Château de Guilhemanson is located in the commune of St.-Hippolyte, southeast of the medieval town of Saint-Émilion. Situated on the right bank of the Gironde in the renowned Bordeaux region, Saint-Émilion is celebrated for its distinct classification system and a diverse terroir that ranges from limestone plateaus and clay to sand and gravel. Bordeaux itself has a rich history of exporting wine since the Middle Ages and remains globally recognized for its historic estates. The property is owned by Comtesse Claude d'Anthouard, and the wine is bottled by the established cooperative Union de Producteurs de Saint-Emilion.
The 1989 vintage was shaped by a warm and dry summer in the region. This particular year achieved a score of 96 points and is characterized as full-bodied and concentrated, reflecting the favorable conditions of the growing season.
The estate comprises eight hectares of vineyards, advantageously positioned on south-facing slopes. The plantings are dominated by 60 percent Merlot, a classic blue grape frequently cultivated in Bordeaux, California, Washington, and Northern Italy. This is complemented by 24 percent Cabernet Franc, typically found in the Loire, Bordeaux, and California, and 16 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, one of the world's most recognized blue grapes grown in regions such as Bordeaux, California, Washington, and Tuscany. Together, these varieties form a traditional blend under the Appellation Saint-Émilion Contrôlée.
