Saint Estèphe Grand Cru Classé en 1855 Château Lafon-Rochet 1985 up
The 1985 Château Lafon-Rochet is a 4th Grand Cru Classé red wine from the renowned Bordeaux region in France. Situated on the Atlantic coast, Bordeaux has been exporting wine since the Middle Ages and remains defined by its historic 1855 classification. The 1985 vintage achieved a score of 90 points and is characterized as soft and elegant, reflecting the finesse typical of the region's left bank. This particular vintage was produced under the ownership of the Tesseron family, who acquired the estate in 1959, with Guy Tesseron managing the property at the time of this bottling.
The wine originates from Saint-Estèphe, the northernmost of the famous Médoc commune appellations, located just north of Pauillac. The soils here contain a higher proportion of clay and limestone compared to neighboring areas, providing the foundation for wines with notable firmness and structural depth. This release is composed of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, a dark grape variety widely recognized for producing structured red wines and frequently cultivated in regions such as Bordeaux, California, Washington, and Tuscany.
Château Lafon-Rochet spans 41 hectares in a highly sought-after location between Château Lafite-Rothschild and Cos d'Estournel. The château itself was built based on an 18th-century design and is known today for its distinctive yellow color, introduced by Michel Tesseron in 2000. The estate's classic Saint-Estèphe style is deeply influenced by the mineral-rich soils of the area. As indicated on the label, the wine was bottled directly at the château, maintaining the traditional production methods of the estate long before the property transitioned to the Lorenzetti portfolio in 2021.
