Saint Julien Grand Cru Classé Château Gruaud Larose 1987
The 1987 Château Gruaud Larose is a Grand Cru Classé red wine from the renowned Bordeaux region in France. Originating from the Saint-Julien appellation, located between Margaux and Pauillac in the Haut-Médoc, this wine represents the classic Left Bank character. Bordeaux, situated along the Atlantic coast, has been exporting wine since the Middle Ages and is famous for its elegant blended wines of great finesse, primarily driven by Cabernet Sauvignon grown on gravel soils. The 1987 vintage is characterized as light.
Saint-Julien is a small but highly consistent appellation known for producing structured Bordeaux wines. The style of the area is often described as a midpoint between the power of Pauillac and the elegance of Margaux. The wines here are traditionally Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated blends, reflecting the deep historical roots of the appellation.
Château Gruaud Larose was founded in 1725 by Abbé Joseph Stanislas Gruaud. The estate's name eventually combined his lineage with that of his son-in-law, Chevalier de Larose. In the historic 1855 classification, the château was ranked as a 2e Cru Classé, making it one of only four classified second growths in Saint-Julien. The estate spans 82 hectares and proudly carries the motto "le roi des vins, le vin des rois," which translates to "the king of wines, the wine of kings."
The ownership history of the château has seen several changes over the centuries. The Cordier family took over the estate in 1917 and maintained ownership until 1983, after which the property passed through several institutional owners. The Cordier legacy is still reflected on this specific bottle, which features the Cordier name embossed on the glass and lists Désiré Cordier as the proprietor. The wine was bottled directly at the château.

Storage
Store the bottle horizontally at 12–14°C and avoid direct sunlight, vibrations, and temperature fluctuations.
Opening
Allow the bottle to stand upright for 24–48 hours before opening to allow sediment to settle. Use a professional corkscrew and open carefully.
Enjoyment
Serve at 17–18°C and be patient – there is a great difference in how and how quickly wines open up when they are aerated.
