This 1980 white wine is produced by André Quancard André under the Appellation Sauternes Contrôlée.
Sauternes is located in the southern part of Bordeaux within the Graves district and stands as one of the world's most famous appellations for sweet white wine. The Bordeaux region, situated by the Atlantic Ocean, has been exporting wine since the Middle Ages and is renowned for its historic 1855 classification. While the broader region is known for its red grape varieties, with Cabernet Sauvignon dominating the gravel soils of the Left Bank and Merlot and Cabernet Franc on the Right Bank, Sauternes focuses on white varieties.
The wines of Sauternes are primarily crafted from Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle. In this specific area, the fog and moisture generated around the Ciron and Garonne rivers create the ideal conditions for the development of noble rot, or botrytis. This natural process concentrates the grapes prior to harvest. The 1980 vintage in this region is generally described as light and short-lived.

Storage
Store the bottle horizontally at 12–14°C and avoid direct sunlight, vibrations, and temperature fluctuations.
Opening
Allow the bottle to stand upright for 24–48 hours before opening to allow sediment to settle. Use a professional corkscrew and open carefully.
Enjoyment
Serve at 17–18°C and be patient – there is a great difference in how and how quickly wines open up when they are aerated.
