Château Calon St-Georges-St-Émilion J.N. Boidron 1990
Produced by J.N. Boidron, Château Calon is a French red wine from the St-Georges-St-Émilion appellation. This 1990 vintage was bottled at the estate and features a special selection label commemorating the 100th anniversary of "Det Franske Vinlager" (The French Wine Warehouse). The wine is presented in a 750ml bottle with an alcohol content of 12.5%.
The wine originates from Bordeaux, a world-renowned region on the Atlantic coast that has been exporting wine since the Middle Ages. While the left bank of the Gironde is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon on gravel soils, the right bank is the traditional domain of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. St-Georges-St-Émilion is located on this right bank, specifically in the Libournais subregion just north of Saint-Émilion, separated by the small Barbanne river. It is a geographical enclave within the larger Montagne-Saint-Émilion appellation and, with only about 200 hectares of planted vines, it is the smallest of the four Saint-Émilion satellite appellations. The 1990 vintage achieved a score of 97 points, noted for its great ripeness and balance.
The terroir of St-Georges-St-Émilion is defined by a hilly landscape with soils consisting primarily of clay and limestone. These geological conditions are optimal for cultivating the classic grape varieties of the Bordeaux right bank. The appellation is exclusively authorized to produce red wine, and the vineyards are dominated by Merlot, which is typically supplemented by Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
