Trentino Cavite 1986
The Trentino Cavit 1986 is a white wine produced under the Denominazione di Origine Controllata classification in Northern Italy. This specific release was bottled to commemorate the 60th National Gathering of the Alpini (60ª Adunata Nazionale), which took place in Trento on May 16 and 17, 1987.
Cavit, which stands for Cantina Viticoltori del Trentino, is one of Italy's largest wine organizations. Founded in 1950, it operates as an umbrella for 11 member cooperatives, representing approximately 4,500 winegrowers across 5,250 hectares. This cooperative structure allows Cavit to cover the entire breadth of the region's viticulture, organizing the local wine production on a massive scale.
The wine originates from Trentino, the southern part of the Trentino-Alto Adige region. The area forms a long valley surrounding the Adige river, nestled between the Dolomites and Lake Garda. The vineyards, which can be found at altitudes of up to 900 meters, benefit from an alpine and continental climate. The cool mountain air currents and significant temperature differences between day and night define the growing conditions of the region. The Trentino DOC, established in 1971, serves as a broad appellation covering a wide variety of grapes.
This 1986 vintage is made exclusively from Chardonnay, one of the world's most recognized green grape varieties. While it is widely cultivated globally, with prominent plantings in regions such as Burgundy, Champagne, California, and Oregon, it has also found a significant foothold in the alpine environment of Northern Italy.
