Donnas Caves Cooperatives de Donnas 1999
The 1999 Donnas is a red wine produced by Caves Cooperatives de Donnas in the Valle d'Aosta, Italy's smallest wine region. Nestled between the highest peaks of the Alps near the borders of France and Switzerland, the region is characterized by its extreme alpine environment. The vineyards here are situated on some of the highest terraces in Europe and are often cultivated by hand due to the steep, rugged terrain.
This Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) wine originates from the rocky slopes of the municipalities of Donnas, Bard, Perloz, and Pont-Saint-Martin. The blend is primarily composed of the local alpine version of Nebbiolo, known regionally as Picotendro, which makes up 85 percent of the wine. The remaining 15 percent consists of the native Freisa and Neyret grape varieties, reflecting the strong local identity of the Vallée d'Aoste appellation.
During the production process, the wine was aged in oak barrels or barriques. It was subsequently bottled in the zone of origin by the cooperative, resulting in a final alcohol content of 13 percent.
