VSC Valle del Maipo, Valle de Colchagua Santa Carolina 2006
The VSC 2006 is a red wine produced by Santa Carolina, an estate established in Chile in 1875. This vintage is an assemblage that brings together grapes from two distinct Chilean appellations: D.O. Valle del Maipo and D.O. Valle de Colchagua.
The grapes are sourced from vineyards with specific geographical characteristics. In the Alto Maipo vineyards, the vines grow in well-drained alluvial and granite soils located in the Andean foothills. Meanwhile, the vineyards in Alto Colchagua are influenced by cooling breezes that blow in directly from the sea.
This wine is crafted from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère, Malbec, and Petit Verdot. Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the world's most recognized blue grapes for structured red wines, frequently cultivated in regions like Bordeaux, California, Washington, and Tuscany. Malbec is a blue grape traditionally associated with areas such as Argentina, Cahors, Bordeaux, and California. The addition of Petit Verdot, a powerful blue grape often utilized for color and structure, is typically found in Bordeaux, California, and Spain.
Bottled at 14.5% alcohol, this D.O. classified wine represents a classic Chilean assemblage from the 2006 vintage, reflecting the distinct environmental conditions of both the Maipo and Colchagua valleys.
