The 1999 Missionvale is a white wine produced by Bouchard Finlayson in the Cape region of South Africa. It holds the Wine of Origin classification from the Walker Bay area, specifically originating from the Klein Hemel-en-Aarde valley near Hermanus.
This vintage is crafted exclusively from Chardonnay, one of the world's most recognized white grape varieties. Chardonnay is cultivated globally in numerous styles and is typically associated with renowned wine regions such as Burgundy, Champagne, California, and Oregon.
The wine was bottled directly in the Bouchard Finlayson cellar. The 1999 vintage of Missionvale yielded a total production of 8,592 bottles. The label features the signatures of Paul Bouchard and Peter Finlayson, representing the collaboration behind the estate. The wine is presented in a 750ml format with an alcohol content of 12.5%.

Cape
"Cape" (often referred to as Western Cape) is the primary and most significant geographical unit for wine production in South Africa. The region is located on the southwestern tip of the African continent and is bordered by both the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean. The area is characterized by a dramatic landscape with the prominent Cape Fold mountains, which create a wide range of valleys and slopes with great geological diversity. The soil varies significantly and ranges from granite and slate to sandstone and gravel, which provides vastly different growing conditions across the region's many districts.
The climate in the Cape region is predominantly of the Mediterranean type with warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters. The proximity to the oceans plays a crucial role for viticulture, especially due to the cold Benguela current from Antarctica, which runs up along the South African west coast. This ocean current creates cool breezes and morning fog that roll in over the vineyards and moderate the summer heat. Further inland, behind the mountain ranges, the amount of rainfall drops significantly, and the climate becomes warmer and drier.
The wine tradition in the Cape area dates back to the mid-1600s, when the first European vines were planted by the Dutch East India Company. Today, the region is divided into a complex system of zones, regions, districts and smaller sub-areas under the South African Wine of Origin classification system. The area houses some of the country's most recognized wine districts, including Stellenbosch, Paarl, Franschhoek and Walker Bay, and is known for cultivating a wide range of classic European grape varieties.

Storage
Store the bottle horizontally at 12–14°C and avoid direct sunlight, vibrations, and temperature fluctuations.
Opening
Allow the bottle to stand upright for 24–48 hours before opening to allow sediment to settle. Use a professional corkscrew and open carefully.
Enjoyment
Serve at 17–18°C and be patient – there is a great difference in how and how quickly wines open up when they are aerated.
