Choose according to the recipient’s taste, the vintage’s style and the occasion. Piemonte-based Nebbiolo (Barolo/Gattinara) offers structure and complexity; Gattinara is often lighter and mineral. If freshness is desired, consider white/rosé. A wine from the birth year is a personal birthday gift for both her and him. All bottles are 0,75 l and contain sulfites.
It shifts from fresh red fruit and flowers to dried cherries, leather, truffle, tobacco and forest floor. The high tannins soften, and the acidity keeps the wine alive. Mature Nebbiolo pairs beautifully with rich dishes such as mushroom risotto, beef or dishes with truffles.
Stand the bottle upright 24 hours before serving so the sediment collects. Open carefully and decant just before serving only to remove sediment. Very old wines should not be aired for long. Serve at approx. 16–18 °C in large glasses.
